raw power

LA alt rock mainstays Vattica reached out to me to photograph their performance at Emo Nite. Before Emo Nite became the franchise it is now, it was a monthly night of current live music acts and DJs spinning rock hits from the late 90’s and early 2000’s at the Echo.

Back then, Emo Nite wasn’t just a good time but a showcase for the hottest upcoming bands in LA and a spot at Emo Nite could make a band.

I was privileged to be hired by Vattica to photograph their set on March 7, 2017.

I frequented Emo Nite as a fan and had photographed Vattica before so I jumped at chance to capture their performance this night.

I had been capturing the raw energy of live music for years, my lens drawn to the pulse of the underground scene. On a cool March night in 2017, that passion led me to an unexpected opportunity with Vattica, one of L.A.’s rising alt-rock bands.

It started with a message—direct, no frills. “You free to shoot our set at Emo Nite?” The sender: Vattica’s frontman. I had photographed them before, but this was different. Emo Nite at The Echo wasn’t just another gig; it was a gathering of diehard fans, a celebration of a movement that never truly faded.

With my camera bag slung over my shoulder, I arrived early, soaking in the neon-lit nostalgia and the electricity of the crowd. When Vattica took the stage, I got to work—dodging strobe lights, capturing sweat-soaked intensity, freezing moments that would live beyond the night. Every shot told a story of sound and emotion, of a band and its audience locked in a shared heartbeat.

As the last notes rang out and the applause thundered, I knew I had something special. That night wasn’t just about taking photos—it was about being part of something bigger.

Check out my photos from the night as well as some of my favorite photos I've taken at other concerts below.
